 Sunday School

Here at Immanuel we have classes available for children who are 18 months old through high school.

Our Toddlers (18 months through 3 yrs) have a great time learning through the use of toys, activities and crafts planned by the teachers.

Our 3 year olds through Kindergarten, are in one classroom (3 & 4 yr olds and Pre-Kindergarten in one room
and Kindergarten in another room) each Sunday with the same teacher/s.
They teach the same curriculum as Grades 1 through 6, but is more appropriate for their age.

We use a rotation model to teach our Sunday School lessons to Grades 1 through 6.
They study and experience the same Bible story and concept through kid-friendly centers.
The centers could be any one of the following: Arts & Crafts, Drama, Music, Science, Games, Multimedia,
and any other center necessary to teach the subject matter.
The same Bible story/concept is taught in all of the centers for four or five weeks rotating the kids to a different center each week.
The center leaders do not rotate, but say in one place, for the four to five week rotation.
Consistency and relationship-building are provided by the children's Guide,
an adult volunteer who rotates with the classes and who remains with one class for the entire school year.

Our Junior High age group (Grades 7 and 8) are taught by the same teacher each week on Sundays and have their own curriculum.
We are currently using the "Here We Stand" curriculum from Augsburg Fortress.

Our High School class (Grades 9 through 12) covers multiple life topics.
This class is more of a discussion group helping the youth deal with peer pressure and issues they may be facing at this point in time in their life.

 Adult Sunday School

The Adult class covers multiple subjects over several Sunday mornings.
Taught by different volunteers, we study the world around us using the Bible and our Christian heritage.
Currently we are watching some of our "Mosaic" videos.

Faith Stepping Stones

The Faith Stepping Stones is the process by which we intentionally uphold our promises made to our children in baptism:
Faithfully bringing them to worship; Teaching them the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments;
Placing in their hands the Holy Scriptures and instructing them in the Christian faith.
This process cannot work without the parents involved, so we encourage parents to attend as they are able as well!

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION TO THE BIBLE FOR SECOND GRADERS

The second graders are given a Bible, and then they and their parents are introduced to the Bible in a three week class taught by the Pastors.
We hope that this sparks a desire to learn about the Word of God!

STEP 2: INTRODUCTION TO THE SMALL CATECHISM FOR THIRD GRADERS

The third graders are given a copy of Martin Luther's "Small Catechism," and then they and their parents are introduced to this classic piece of Lutheran heritage.
The Small Catechism will become their primary text book for confirmation lessons, so we want to introduce them to this as early as possible!

STEP 3: PREPARATION FOR FIRST COMMUNION FOR FOURTH GRADERS

The pastors teach a 3-session preparation class for children in fourth grade and their parents
so that they can better understand the Sacrament of Communion before their First Communion on Maundy Thursday.

Confirmation

We believe that Baptism is the greatest gift that God has given us: forgiving our sinful nature and choosing us to be followers of Jesus even when we are infants.
As infants grow in years, we want them to recognize the amazing grace that God has bestowed on us all,
and to accept the promises their parents and sponsors made for them as their own promises!
In order for this to happen, Pastor Al and Pastor Bryan teach confirmation lessons on most Wednesday nights, from 6:30 to 7:45 for students in grades 7 and 8.
Using Luther's Small Catechism as a guide, we look at the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, the Ten Commandments and the sacraments.
With multi-media presentations, discussions, and a lot of fun we look at what these staples of Christianity mean for us.

Vacation Bible School

For a week every summer, we host a Vacation Bible School for all children who would like to come.

Our VBS this year was "Kingdom of the Son: A Prayer Safari"!  It was a great success, and we'll have pictures up soon!

"Pop Tabs for Kids" Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home to families whose children, age 18 and under, are receiving medical care in the Omaha metropolitan area.

The Sunday School children collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. These pop tabs are recycled and the proceeds are used to offset the operating costs of the House.

JOIN IN THE FUN and bring your collection of POP TABS for the Sunday School mission project. You may drop off your pop tabs to the Sunday School office to be distributed among the classes, or bring them to Sunday School Closing Worship on any Sunday at 10:15a.m.

Jean's Storytime

For over fifty years, the Jean's Storytime Television Ministry for children has reached out to children in all types of homes; urban and rural, rich and poor, believer and non-believer. Just as branches of the tree reach out in all directions, Jean's Storytime tells children to reach out and learn all they can about God and His love for them.

WATCH for Jean's Storytime on KMTV 3.

Our Sunday School children support this mission with their birthday coins and other special offerings.

HAVE YOU SPENT TIME WITH KATIE OR MARTIN, THE PRAYER BEARS?
You can sign up for the Prayer Bears each Sunday to take home for the week.
Look for the slips of paper in the basket beneath the church guest book as you enter the church.
Sign your name and give your phone number. Names are drawn at each Church service (8:15am and 10:40am)
and announced during the Children's Message.
Each Prayer Bear has two prayers for you to learn and use.
Remember to bring your Prayer Bear back the following Sunday for the next child to enjoy.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with Sunday School.
If you are interested in teaching a rotation center, being a guide, helping out with VBS or Summer Sunday School,
planning curriculum, or helping the Education Committee plan, we would be happy to talk with you.
Contact the church office for more information!
Come help our children learn about Jesus!
